Building Blocks of a Chinese Language Program SFUSD Case Study

submitted by caisinstitute on Mar 03, 2009

This presentation was delivered at CAIS Institute's Administrator Workshops in 2008, by director Yalan King and SFUSD consultant Carol Lei. They discussed different methods of collaborating, various components of a Mandarin program, they reviewed successful strategies, and went over SFUSD's creation of two Mandarin immersion programs as a case study.

This is a great presentation if you are looking for new ideas for collaborating with other organizations to get your program off the ground. SFUSD is a wonderful case study in this respect-- learn from the mistakes and successes of a grassroots, parent-driven force who ultimately created two successful Mandarin immersion program in the San Francisco Unified school district. Although the example is of an immersion program, all program models will benefit from the experiences outlined in this presentation.
