Better Chinese's heart and soul, Yu Lao Shi, talks about My First Chinese Words series. This series was adopted by Hanban (hanban.org) as the Best Chinese as a Foreign Language program and also has been reviewed and adopted by several departments of education in the US, including Utah.

My First Chinese Words are child-sized readers meant to be used as storybooks for the very young learners. Why stories? Students innately love stories because they are fun and enticing. Story-based curriculum is also the best way for children to develop literary skills, phonetic awareness, as well as provide a cultural context for learning Chinese.
