Indiana University Bloomington’s School of Education offers three professional education routes in which to earn a license to teach Chinese. Applicable classes are available from the East Asian Languages and Cultures department. Note that applicants with bachelor’s degrees earned in Taiwan or China may not need additional course work in Chinese.

Certification program options:

1. Transition to Teaching: a fast, cohort-based program; starts in the second summer session (mid-June)

2. Secondary Graduate Certification program: also can be completed on a part-time basis

3. Community of Teachers: can be completed on a part-time basis; participants are mentored by a public school Chinese teacher of the participant’s choice

All three programs offer “field” experiences with foreign language learners in a school setting.
