The 1990 Institute, Magic Moments program, is once again offering two fellowships this summer for educators to visit China. This is an amazing opportunity for professional development and to learn about global education. Two fellowships are available in Summer 2012. What's provided: All essential expenses including round-trip airfare from San Francisco, lodging and food (up to $3,500). What’s expected: A positive attitude, a team player, commitment, your expertise to enhance the trip. Share your experience with your school/institute after the trip. 1. Travel Fellowship: June 10- 28, 2012: The Magic Moments Travel Fellowship program has funded a fellow each summer since 2006 to join as a chaperone for Crystal Springs Uplands School’s annual summer study trip to China. The program, led by Bill Kwong, offers an 18-day, all-expense paid, professional development opportunity to learn how to lead a study trip for American students in China. The fellow chosen will participate in travel this year to the cities of Shanghai, Jiangyin, Chengdu, Beifengxia, and Beijing. The fellow will also have opportunities to establish meaningful educational contacts and participate in a number of cultural and service-learning activities. This ideal fellow is someone who enjoys community service as well as working with children. The candidate should be willing to discover, work collaboratively, be engaging, is organized and has a desire to learn about foreign cultures. 2. Teaching Fellowship July-August 1 2012: The Magic Moments Fellowship program has funded a fellow each summer to join America Bridges China (ABC) Youth Community Service Team since 2007, mentored by Allison Lee. ABC is a fun and rewarding group. The fellow will work with highly motivated volunteers (teachers, specialists and high school youth). The ABC team will be teaching English to Qiaoqi Elementary School summer campers through art, music, reading and games in the mornings. The school will provide introductory classes such as Chinese language, musical instruments, cooking, chess, brush painting and ping-pong to the volunteers in the afternoons. The group usually visits nearby historical sites and beautiful cities on the weekends. The ideal fellow is someone who enjoys community service as well as working with children overseas.
