I have touched on some issues regarding China on my website on the "about us" page. I have included some research done by Cambridge on the subject which may also be downloaded. I also have recommended some books on the subject that are useful. The book recommendations are on the "about us" page.
To get started learning chinese you can download the program on my open courseware website. It has a very good explanation of the language in the first two units and then lessons that get you going in a very logical way. We have combined a topic based approach and a grammar progression. We also have voice recordings that are recorded at two speeds, "native" and "learning" speed. I wrote the program to simplify the process of learning as much as possible.
