Chinese 1 is an introduction to the Chinese language and culture. We cover Introduction and Lessons 1 to 4 in Integrated Chinese Level 1 Part 1. The four language skills are developed. Cultural information about daily life and social customs is integrated into the curriculum throughout the year.

Chinese 2x will continue to focus on the Chinese language and culture. We use Integrated Chinese Level 1 Part 1. It covers Lessons 6 to 11. The four language skills are developed, with more emphasis on reading and writing. Cultural information about China’s history, geography and social customs is integrated into the curriculum throughout the year.

Chinese 3x will use Integrated Chinese Level 1 Part 2. It will cover lessons 12 to 19. More sophisticated topics relating to language structures and Chinese culture are going to be introduced. Students will participate in a variety of oral activities to produce improved pronunciation, intonation and tones in communicative situations. Students will be assessed on their use of the language and the cultural knowledge of the Chinese-speaking countries.
